Custom Gate Fence Arbor Project

Project:  Design + Build custom gates, fencing, and arbor for a home in Agoura Hills, Ca.

Goal: Our clients enjoy the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a renowned Designer in the Arts & Crafts movement, and hoped to incorporate a Craftsman style element into their new gate.  We aimed to realize their vision stylistically, as well as provide them with a durable gate and fencing system, capable of lasting decades with no-to-low upkeep.

We created this rendering for our client, and stuck very closely to every detail during the building process.

Building the gates in our woodshop, routing the door's chamfered edge detail.

We build these gates with durability in mind.  All edges and end grains are treated with an elastomeric coating, two coats of alkyd primer, and two coats of Low-VOC paint.

Installing the electronic keypad.

We continued the heart-tipped hinge theme in the handles and vertical gate bolt. All hardware is powder coated, galvanized or stainless steel.  One of the best ways to be green is to build things to last.

Ready for the handcrafted ironwork to be installed.

The entrance features a handmade, powder coated iron arbor and window detail, based on a Charles Rennie Mackintosh motif.  Eventually the roses to the right will wrap themselves around the arbor.

The second opening was a little wider, so we made a pair of gates.  Both gates feature something fairly unique - A small arch at the bottom serves as a "bunny escape" to allow neighborhood rabbits to escape from our client's dogs.

Handcrafted ironwork window detail fits nice and snug; electronic keypad for entry.

This little fence section is more than meets the eye. We designed it to disassemble simply by removing a single bolt, allowing for easy access to the two A/C units hiding behind it.
