The Loft Project. Jack London District, Oakland, California. We had the opportunity to design and build a loft in the Jack London District of Oakland. We were responsible for designing nearly every aspect of the project, and completed much of the major construction elements. These include the original blueprints, the entire kitchen and island, theatre system and arched canopy ceilings. We wanted to create a space that combined the modern feel of warehouse living, with the comfortable, classic, warm feel of a house from the 30’s. While the building is an 80 year old concrete box, it would also be a home. In addition, it would remain a practical workspace, as it was intended. The space is divided in a way that would combine the openness of a traditional loft, with the smaller spaces found in a house.

Bathroom Remodel. Oakland, California.A small but complicated bathroom remodel. While only 8 square feet of floor space was gained, by using all glass shower walls, and the clean lines of the plumbing fixtures chosen by the owner, the space feels vastly larger. Entire bathroom rebuilt, including new marine-grade subfloor, higher ceiling, new window and all surfaces. All plumbing, electrical and ventilation was replaced and re-located, while adding an additional faucet, fan and bidet. Includes natural fiber insulation, heated floor, and low VOC paint. Custom Medicine Cabinet from our workshop contains interior power receptacle for discrete charging of electric toothbrush without countertop clutter. Stone tile floor and shower surround by Joseph ERTL, and includes a no VOC sealer.
Madrone Stairs. Albany, California.Bamboo treads with natural Madrone baluster. Vertical Grain Douglas Fir cap and grab-rail. Designed by award winning Arkin-Tilt Architects. Red-Iron steel frame installed by subcontractor.
